Renewal HH

HIROO HOMES Renewal

A co-design renewal project for a vintage apartment designed by world-reknowned architect Fumihiko Maki.

The entrance, corridors, reception area, signage and other common areas were completely renovated to take care of the damage over the years and to enhance convenience.

The neat modernism apartment is in an elegant neighborhood and occupied by relatively senior residents. Therefore design decisions were made to maintain the existing dignified atmosphere.

The intercom system at the entrance, the information map for each unit, and a set of signs for the site including the roadway and parking lot surrounding the condominium was redesigned. Also a durable, stain-resistant and walkable carpet was used throughout the area to ensure long-term use.

outil

outil

An interior project for “outil”; a hair salon conscious about everything from tools to the environment. Their name comes from the French word for tools.

A roomy layout of 3 styling chairs, a boxed kid’s play area, a shampoo area with quiet ambience and a display zone decorated with dried flowers and thought-out textures were planned.

Materials were selected with the clientfrom dozens of varieties and everything to the dimensions of furnitures were studied thoroughly.

The polished concrete floor that took advantage of existing structure and the static furnitures create a minimal impression (an impression similar to that of “SUPERFLAT”). Also, by using solid wood and a plastering finish, a stylish and comfortable atmosphere was achieved.

Residence Y - TONE

A renovation project for a room in an apartment.

Reassembling of the program was done so that the 3 bedroom apartment can handle change in family size over the next decade and more.

The brightness of each room gradually changes according to the sequence and purpose of the rooms. From the bright hallway and corridor → the bedroom, study, bathroom and toilet with quiet tones → the luminous living room → the bright multipurpose room.

The space was planned as if the sequences of illuminance and color are playing music in a tone.

For the living room and multipurpose room to be utilized as a continuous space, the height of the ceiling was designed to be high as possible.

The client wished for large storage space. Therefore, storage space that was about double the size of normal apartment rooms was planned. For this storage space to coexist with spacious relaxed rooms, horizontal and vertical balances were carefully considered.

Fuchu

Fuchu City Kyodo-no-Mori
Tourism Product Promotion Center

Photo : Yuri Eitai

A renovation project for Fuchu City Kyodo-no-Mori Tourism Product Promotion Center; a public multipurpose facility located in a large city park.

The design theme was taken from Fuchu City’s major traditional event called “Kurayami Festival”.

The facility is used by people of various age, therefore a classy and  composed tone (Kurayami: darkness = black) was used and everything was kept simple. This decision was made to give the facility a sense of unity and for it to be easy to use for all people.

Spaces that were divided by furniture were opened up for the area to feel more spacious and connected. Also, to increase convenience, sections were zoned into 4 departments: information department, souvenir department, vegetable department and eating / drinking department.

The box in the central part of the facility can be used for displaying seasonal products, for lectures, for small concerts, for displaying art

pieces and so on.

Shop B

A renewal proposal for a hair salon.

The concept of the renewal was decided from the unique name of the shop which came from a coined word. Glass blocks were proposed as the main material.

By arranging all the served space and

the servant space on a fixed y axis, the otherwise complicated flow of customer and staff was organized.

The existing layout has 4 styling chairs and 1 shampoo station in a fully open area. To utilize the unused space, a semi-private room (VIP room), and a multipurpose area was planned in addition to the open styling areas.

Casa M
Casa M

A codesigned renovation project for an apartment building of 15 houses.

The apartment building extended east to west and the rooms were only able to let in daylight from the south side. Therefore, light materials were used to brighten the rooms.

By providing partitions to the connected two rooms, the rooms are flexible with no boundaries that mark particular rooms.

For this reason, instead of the floor plan, the placement of furniture defines the rooms.

Horizon
Horizon

An interior design project for a living room in an apartment.

To realize both function and beauty, two factors that sometimes conflict, various horizontal display shelves were planned to surround the area.

The shelves not only act as functional items but also as decorative items that set the atmosphere.

Additionally, by assembling furniture with strong horizontal details, a sense of unity was acquired.

House D

House D - 2×2=5

A renovation project including an extension to the front yard.

An area was added adjacent to the existing living/dining room. Considerations were made so that the extended space could be used as a spacious living/dining room or be used as a new living or dining room to separate the living/dining rooms.

The floor was fully reinforced concrete. This made it so that, by opening the area (depending on the season), the area becomes an intermediate space where people can both relax and use practically; from the inside it can be perceived as an extended garden space and from the outside it can be perceived as an extended living/dining room.

Kujira-so

An interior design project for the hotdog shop “Kujira-so”; a shop adjacent to “Sora-to-miruku” in Sangen-jaya Sankakuchitai

The site was previously a restaurant. Therefore, the planning, design consultation and drafting was done to transform the site into a hotdog shop by making use of some of the former furnishings.

The ratio of eating space and kitchen space was carefully considered for the shop to achieve its full potential. Also, coloring suggestions were made to help the shop earn popularity.

Line Desk
Line Desk

A desk for a room in a shared office. Relaxed curves with soft impressions were used to fulfill the client‘s request for an open area.

To make do with limited time and budget, the desk was fully constructed from OSB (a type of wooden structural board). The beams that support the top board and 10 L-shaped legs were connected by wooden joints for sturdiness.

Between the S and L shaped top board, there is a part where the top board can be opened. This enables access to the balcony while still having a long and spacious area for people to work and study on.

Shell Lamp

A design project of a lamp for a bar.

White Pectinidae with a hint of pink was used.

Spheres of three different sizes (outer diameter of S:250mm, M:350mm, L:450mm) were suggested to make the bar feel roomier in perspective.

Dimensions of wire that consisted the structure were studied up to the millimeters for sturdiness. Plus, taking the lamps location into consideration, the lighting equipment and the lamp shade was connected so it can sway when people come into contact with it.

Google Japan phase3,4

An interior design project for an IT company’s office. Took part in the final phases.

To welcome visitors from all around the world, the design concept was “Wa” (a word for Japanese style and culture). Essence of details and components that are seen in traditional Japanese architecture, such as eaves, fusumas (Japanese traditional sliding doors), lattices and lanterns, were applied.

Also, iconic features such as Japanese style food stalls and public bathes were adapted to fit the office.

House S

A project for a three-generation house. As an assistant of chief architect, took part in client meetings, designing and site directing.

The site was located in an urban area, thus instead of a prevalent horizontally expanded multi-generation house, a vertically expanded house was planned. A modern 4 story house complete with a basement, penthouse and an elevator to connect the floors.

At first glance, the residential build gives off a simple impression of exposed concrete. However, the house consists of a façade with chipped concrete finish, red travertine (a rare building material) components, original lighting equipment, calculated lighting slits and top-class facilities. These factors gave the house subtle prestigiousness and luxury.

Also, in contrast of the façade’s closed impression, top floors have openings that were designed to be large as possible to enjoy the view of surrounding areas.
